Make a Pencil Skirt
Learn to Sew
A
class for absolute beginners to learn the basic uses of a sewing machine. Learn
about the machine parts and the up keep of the machine. Learn about using the
correct needles and threads and to thread the machine correctly and adjust the
tension. Learn basic stitches, how make a variety of seams and sew curves and
corners. You will sew darts, insert zips, attach waistbands and facings, make
gathers and frills and learn how to hem and finish a garment and how to make a
button hole. You will also learn how to choose a commercial pattern, lay a
pattern on fabric and cut out and mark, ready to sew.
2 DAY WEEKEND
1 Day Intensive
This workshop is a good
follow on from our Learn To Sew courses and enables you to put your new sewing
skills into practice.
The skirt is a simple but
timeless garment, and an ideal project to start sewing with. Choose from making
a stylish pencil skirt, a full-length skirt, A-line skirt or a even mini skirt,
and bring some beautiful fabric to really make the skirt your own.
During the class you will
learn how to use a commercial pattern, and to lay, mark and pin the pattern to
fabric and cut out. You will sew seams and darts, insert a concealed zip,
attach a facing, make and attach a lining, and then hem, press and finish your
skirt ready to wear. You will be given a pattern to use, you just need to bring
fabric and a matching zip.

Sunday 19th January

This workshop is for those
who already have basic sewing skills or have completed our Learn To Sew course.
It’s a simple dress and a fun garment to make.
We’ve chosen an easy dress
that suits lots of different body types, and you can choose the skirt length
and will make it to your size. In this class you will learn how to use a
commercial pattern, and to lay, mark and pin the pattern to fabric and cut out.
You will be sewing seams, making tucks, attaching pockets and a facing, and
learn to make and set in sleeves. You will them hem, press and finish your
dress ready to wear. You will be provided with a commercial dress pattern just
bring along some fabric for the dress.

January

In this workshop you will gain an
insight into the workings of the commercial side of the fashion industry. It will cover the structure of the fashion
industry, the different levels of the market, the seasons and the fashion
calendar. It includes fashion forecasting and key trend analysis as well as
fabric sourcing and the design and sampling
and manufacturing. The buying and selling process, wholesale and retail
selling will also be touched on. If you’re wanting a more in depth course try

This workshop will cover the
first steps you need to take to setting up a fashion business course first. You
will examine your business idea, product or service and consider the viability
of it. You will identify the level of the fashion market and your target
customer. You will then make a plan of action you need to undertake to research
the market, your customer and the completion. Lots of insider information
supplied To gain a full understanding of how the fashion industry work you may
want to take our Inside the Fashion Industry first. Once you have completed the
course and carried out further market research and planning you can progress
onto our longer How to Set up and Run a Fashion Label course.

If you want to set up your own
fashion business and produce designs under your own label this intensive course
will cover all the basics and set you on the right path.
It starts with an overview of the
industry and the fashion seasons. It will cover business start up and planning,
how to research the market target customers and identify the competition. It includes simple financial
planning, costings and pricing. You will
gain knowledge of the design process, fabric sourcing, sampling, production and
manufacturing, marketing, PR and the Buying and Selling. You’ll receive lots of
insider information as well as useful contacts.

On this course you will
learn about the fashion design process. We will cover sources of inspiration,
undertake research and develop themes. You will choose a theme or topic, create
a mood board, explore colour and texture and fabric and experiment with proportion,
silhouette and details to create a sketchbook bursting with creative ideas that
can be further developed into designs for a range of fashion garments. You will
need to complete some homework to get the best out of this course.
If you wish to progress
with you can bring this work to the Intermediate level Design a Collection for
a Target Customer course to develop them into a fashion collection

to Thursday 13th February

This course you will learn
about how the fashion design process works in the fashion industry. It will
start with an introduction to the fashion industry, the levels of the fashion
market, the seasons and the fashion cycle and targeting customers. You will
learn about trend forecasting, fabric research and range planning. You will
then undertake a research project and develop themes as sources of inspiration
and create a mood board. Sketching and drawing from inspirational sources
you’ll produce creative ideas and develop fashion designs for a range of
fashion garments. At the end of the course you will have a line up of your
collection with colour and fabric suggestions suitable for your target
customer. You will need to complete some homework to get the best out of this
course.
