We're always so proud of our amazing students, and this winters Garment construction programme graduates were no different; they made some gorgeous dresses. 

These dresses are all made from the same pattern don't forget, and edited and adapted by our students using the skills Nina has taught them in class. This year showed some real creativity and inspiration, some beautiful examples...

East London Vintage Tour – Make a Vintage Skirt

Being based in Brick Lane means that we're lucky enough to be surrounded by an eclectic mix of boutiques, bars, restaurants, amazing Indian food and of course, lots of far too tempting vintage stores...

To make the most of this, we're adapting our Make a skirt course to include a trip down Brick Lane to see some of the best vintage stores, get inspired and maybe buy some vintage fabric, and then we'll head back to our studio to make your own retro inspired pencil skirt. Shopping and sewing - not a bad way to spend the day in London!

Itinerary
We will start the day with a get together in the studio to give you the low down of what’s in store for the day. We will then set out for our tour of Brick Lane where you can experience the sights and sounds of one of London’s hippest streets.

We will visit the many retro stores and places of interest including Rokit, This Shop Rocks, London’s first vintage department store Blitz and “The Shop” where there will be a chance to purchase vintage fabrics. Back in the studio you will cut out and make a simple pencil skirt in either you purchased fabric or a fabric of your choice.

You must be able to sew and have made at least one garment before to join the course.

By 4pm you will then be ready to head home with a newly made skirt and vintage finds or maybe head off to one of the many bars or restaurants in the area.

Looking ahead to September!

Last week saw the end of our pattern cutting programme. Students Rosie and Saiqa have flown through the course and achieved some amazing results, and are now getting ready to join our garment construction too, to learn some really expert level skills in making clothes. Its been a pleasure having you ladies!

Now were looking ahead to our September dates which are starting to book up. Garment Construction is on Tuesday daytimes or evenings, or saturday mornings, and Pattern Cutting is running on Wednesday daytimes or evenings, or saturday afternoons, so theres a course for everyone!

Our 3rd June 'Make a Simple Dress' course is now fully booked, looking forward to meeting you all then!

This course is proving more and more popular, and we're adding new dates all the time, but we want to to know what days suit you guys best, so drop us a line, tweet or facebook message to let us know whether you'd rather have more courses in the daytime, evening or weekend.

Forget the rain - Learn to make a lovely summer dress - new dates

Make a Dress for Summer

Chase away the rainy weather by making a summer dress.  This workshop is for those with intermediate sewing skills who have already made at least 2 other garments previously. Using a commercial pattern, you will lay, mark and pin pattern to fabric and cut out. You will sew seams and darts, make tucks, insert a concealed zip, attach a lining, hem, press and finish your dress ready to wear. You will be given a pattern to use and go home with you, there are 2 silhouettes to choose from either with a full skirt or a straight skirt, with or without sleeves. You just need to bring fabric. EVENING 14TH - 28TH MAY EVERY MONDAY FOR 3 WEEKS 6.30 - 9.00 - 7.5 HOURS - £135 15TH - 29TH MAY EVERY TUESDAY FOR 3 WEEKS 6.30 - 9.00 - 7.5 HOURS - £135

Despite the current below zero temperatures and flurries of snow, Spring is just around the corner, and what better to add to your new season wardrobe than a little spring dress. 

 Learn to make a classic shape dress in our Make a Spring Dress class at our cozy Brick Lane studio. Choose from 2 silhouettes and learn essential garment making skills such as how to sew seams and darts, make tucks, insert a concealed zip, attach a lining and hem. You will press and finish your dress ready to wear and be given the pattern to take home with you. All equipment and materials is provided, you just need to bring along the fabric to make your dress in. Why not this seasons must have pastel, or a bright clashing print?

Our Make a Little Black Dress course is currently running on Friday, February 3 - Saturday, February 4, and on Friday, March 9 - Friday, March 16, and will be £149.00. Featured Student - Olu

  

Olu is an illustrator, who joined Fashion Antidote recently for our Garment Construction course, a part of our Skills Training Programme. She has so far completed the Skirt, Shirt, Dress and Jacket sections of the course and is well on her way to becoming an accomplished seamstress. Olu is an illustrator and joined us to broaden her skills and with the idea of expanding her illustrations into making objects and garments.

This is the dress she made at the studio, a fabulous choice of fabrics bought from her local market.

NEW SKILLS FOR THE NEW YEAR

We know how it is. With Christmas fast on the approach, everything else gets left on the backburner. Yoga classes can wait, scrap the pricey no-carb-only-green-and-eco eating regime and don’t even think about that recycling pledge. Featured class – Garment Construction

On a dreary and rather windy morning on Brick Lane, I arrive at the busy Fashion Antidote studio to the whirr of machines and chit chattering of voices. Today is the Garment Construction course, a part of our skills training programme, and the girls on the course are in the midst of making tailored jackets in calico. We’re nearing the end of the course now, with the jacket the final garment, after already completing a skirt, dress, shirt, and a pair of trousers, and its great to see the students flying through with Nina’s guidance, confident in their own abilities now.

 

In todays class the girls are here for a range of reasons. Olu, an illustrator, is learning to make clothes to fit her own particular shape, Tracy wants to make clothes for herself also, as a hobby and pastime, as is Inga, although Inga also hopes to one day have her own label too. Sarah is looking to go to uni to study fashion design, she thinks she will probably go into knitwear, but has come to us to learn all the necessary knowledge to make clothes before she goes, to be one step ahead.

 A very friendly and chatty classroom today, the students spurned on by Nina to successfully tackle ever daunting sleeves, surviving with no casualties and only a broken needle or two, amongst the discussion of sweaty yoga, spinning and energetic dance classes. Great to have you with us guys, hope to see you again soon.

Our Fabulous Students

At fashion Antidote, we're immensely proud of all our students and what they achieve in such a short time with us. One such student is Raj Dhami, who studied with us on our Garment Construction and Pattern Cutting courses, as a part of our Training Skills Programme.

Since the course Raj has made some beautiful garments, and is pictured here in the dress she made during the course, which she now wears to work. An excellent, dedicated and enthusiastic student, Raj is often back for one to one tuition and further courses.

Fashion Skills Training Programme

We're now in full swing with our new fashion skills training programme here at Fashion Antidote.

We’re really excited about this new edition to our courses; a comprehensive full programme of skills for the fashion industry, covering garment construction, pattern cutting, drawing and design and marketing aspects. Students on this course will learn all the skills they need to design, cut and make a commercially viable collection and to analyse their place within the market. This is the first time we have run such a full comprehensive course, and our current students are flying through, finishing next week

Want to become a fashion expert?

The course will be expanding in September, but we are currently running the course as both a full programme covering all aspects of design for industry, and as individual sections, for those who want high quality tuition of industry level skills on a specific aspect.
By doing so, students can either gain a broad but detailed understanding of the fashion design industry as a whole on the full programme, or gain expertise in a specific skill through the smaller sections.
