East London Vintage Tour – Make a Vintage Skirt

Being based in Brick Lane means that we're lucky enough to be surrounded by an eclectic mix of boutiques, bars, restaurants, amazing Indian food and of course, lots of far too tempting vintage stores...

To make the most of this, we're adapting our Make a skirt course to include a trip down Brick Lane to see some of the best vintage stores, get inspired and maybe buy some vintage fabric, and then we'll head back to our studio to make your own retro inspired pencil skirt. Shopping and sewing - not a bad way to spend the day in London!

Itinerary
We will start the day with a get together in the studio to give you the low down of what’s in store for the day. We will then set out for our tour of Brick Lane where you can experience the sights and sounds of one of London’s hippest streets.

We will visit the many retro stores and places of interest including Rokit, This Shop Rocks, London’s first vintage department store Blitz and “The Shop” where there will be a chance to purchase vintage fabrics. Back in the studio you will cut out and make a simple pencil skirt in either you purchased fabric or a fabric of your choice.

You must be able to sew and have made at least one garment before to join the course.

By 4pm you will then be ready to head home with a newly made skirt and vintage finds or maybe head off to one of the many bars or restaurants in the area.

Dates and times:
Thursday 15th November
Saturday 24th November
Saturday 8th December
Thursday 20th January
Saturday 30th January

10am to 4pm 6 hours including lunch break

Price £100

Minimum numbers of participants for each date are 5 and maximum are 10. Please call 02073753235 to book this exclusive course!

Make this summer great

At Fashion Antidote we're giving up waiting for summer, tired of contemplating the point of the Olympics, and taking matters into our own hands to make this summer great.
We've got a fresh crop of eager seamstresses, designers, pattern cutters and dressmakers coming down to our studio to take part in our Summer School, a condensed programme of quality tuition in all areas of fashion.
Running throughout July, August and into September, the summer school runs in bitesize stages that you can add together or do separately, depending on what you want to learn. Do the first stage of our Garment Construction and learn sewing skills, fabric knowledge and how to make a skirt and dress, or do all three stages to cover, a shirt, trousers and a lined jacket too.
Our studio is based in the heart of East London, surrounded by the mix of markets, galleries, street art, boutiques and yes, the Olympics, and the stream of music, drama, theatre, and events its dragging in its wake. But don't be put off by how busy the area will be! We're easily accessible, and can advise you on the best/easiest ways of getting here over the summer.
See our site for more info, or give us a call on 02073753235, or pop in to the studio: Unit F, 23 Heneage Street, London, E1 5LJ

The new programme gets under way

This sunny weekend saw the long awaited start of our new programme, with the first of the Garment Construction tuition.

We’re really excited about this new edition to our courses; a comprehensive full programme of skills for the fashion industry, covering garment construction, pattern cutting, drawing and design and marketing aspects. Students on this course will learn all the skills they need to design, cut and make a commercially viable collection and to analyse their place within the market. This is the first time we have run such a full comprehensive course, and the first weekend saw a great turn out of eager students getting their teeth into some essential sewing skills.

Want to become a fashion expert?

The course will be expanding in September, but we are currently running the course as both a full programme covering all aspects of design for industry, and as individual sections, for those who want high quality tuition of industry level skills on a specific aspect.
By doing so, students can either gain a broad but detailed understanding of the fashion design industry as a whole on the full programme, or gain expertise in a specific skill through the smaller sections.

The sections are: Pattern Cutting, Garment Construction, and Design for a Fashion Collections, check out the website for more details.
A few places still remain on the individual segments, for more information please contact us on 0207 375 3235, or email to info@fashionantidote.com.

Do you dream of being a designer?

The Fashion Design - Design a Fashion Collection for a Target Customer segment will be running from Friday, June 3 to Friday, July 29. Focussing on the design process and analysing target customers and the commercial market, this block of classes will provide all the skills and knowledge a student needs to design a viable collection.

Taught by a team of experienced industry practitioners and tutors, the course covers a whole range of necessary skills and knowledge over 36 hours, perfect for to learn all the ins and outs of the fashion design world. Learn to create moodboards, analyse trends, and identify your target market; draw on inspirations and research to create a unique collection, and study the branding, costing and pricing and the technical drawings to realise it.
For a full break down of the extensive skills covered in the course, see the website here.
