Elements of lingerie, as either outerwear or underwear often appear in Designer collections. SS10 saw an ‘underwear as outerwear’ revolution on the catwalks, and ever since it’s not really left. Designers such as Dolce and Gabbana, Marc Jacobs, Dior and Fendi bring us lingerie to die for, oozing sex appeal and feminine power. An Alexander McQueen or Jean Paul Gaultier collection isn’t complete without some stunning corsetry - these skills are the jewel in the crown of many a designers collection.

We often get enquires about couture finishes, evening wear and bridal wear. Many students who embark on design degrees, sewing courses and garment technology dream of moving onto fantastic show stopping gowns, and finally we have developed a course that can provide these expert skills.

Study Couture skills, Couture embellishments, Making a Boned Bodice, and Lingerie courses with us.

These courses are excellent for those already skilled in making and cutting, or even for those who are currently enrolled on making course and looking ahead to specialise in these areas. Master a French seam, create gorgeous rosettes and silk flowers and insert lace panels with our Couture course. Learn all the skills and technique to making knickers, soft bras and camisoles in the Lingerie classes.

Our tutor Vlasta has her own label of eveningwear and bridal wear. She takes her inspiration for the collections from “the elegance of past eras, mainly the 1930s and the beauty of simplicity”. The different couture techniques she uses to create her pieces, allow them to enhance the features and personality of the person wearing them, a real lesson in well made, simply beautiful garments. Check out her website here.
