Would you like to be able to design, cut and make your own shirts?
We have planned step by step short courses to take you from an absolute beginners level, through all the stages to understand the basics of cutting and the construction of classic men’s or women’s shirt. On completion of our shirt making course you should then be confident to use the skills learnt to go on to design, cut and make your own shirt styles.
If you don’t already have sewing skills then you could start with one of our Learn to Sew courses. and then take a short garment construction class such as Make a Simple Skirt or Make a Simple Dress or men make prefer to take the Make a Pyjama Pant class. This will enable you to practice your sewing skills ready to tackle a shirt.
However some of you may feel that after the Learn to Sew course you are able to go straight to the Make a Simple Men’s or Women’s Shirt course. This is a men’s or women’s short sleeved shirt with a simple collar made using a commercial pattern that we will provide, you just bring a fabric or your choice.
We then have the intermediate level Make a Classic Man’s or Women’s Shirt where you will use a commercial pattern and learn how make all the elements of a classic man’s or women’s shirt.
If you also want to design and make your own shirt patterns rather than use a commercial pattern we have a basic Pattern Cutting for Shirts course.
We've got lots of Learn to Sew courses running throughout the year, on evenings, daytime and weekends, and a couple Simple Shirt courses coming up soon, so there's no excuse to not get sewing!
All courses are run from our Brick Lane studio and are taught in small classes by our industry experienced tutors. See our site here for more info, or you can always pop into the studio!
